Before dropping off your Android phone, remember to back up your photos, contacts, and messages through your Google account or by transferring files to a computer. Then perform a factory reset by going to Settings, selecting System, and choosing the reset option to erase all personal data. Be sure to remove your SIM card and any microSD card, as we do not recycle those and they may contain personal information. If your phone has a cracked screen and you cannot navigate the menus, do not worry — bring it in anyway and we will handle the data destruction on our end. Millions of old smartphones sit unused in homes across the country, and each one represents wasted cobalt, lithium, tungsten, and gold that could be reclaimed through proper recycling. Even a water-damaged phone with a dead battery still has recoverable value in its circuit board and internal components.
