Why lobby bins work
Every desk drawer in your building is hiding an old phone.
People hang on to dead phones and old laptops because getting rid of them is a hassle — a drive across town, a store with item limits, and a nagging worry about the data. Put a bin where everyone already walks and the hassle disappears. One building, one week, one pickup.
How it works
Three steps.
You do none of the lifting.
Collection bins run on weekdays: we drop them off on the day you pick, and we come back for them on the day you pick. In between, the building does the rest.
-
01 We roll them in
Pick a weekday. Our crew brings the bins to your lobby, mailroom, break room or leasing office, parks them label-out and clear of walkways and exits, and checks in with your front desk.
-
02 Everyone drops off
For as many days as you like, tenants, residents and employees drop in old phones, tablets, laptops and desktops on their way past. Send the ready-made announcement below and watch the bins fill.
-
03 We haul it all away
On your pick-up day we roll the full bins out and take everything to our North Kansas City facility. Every drive is wiped or shredded, everything else is recycled, and nothing goes to a landfill.
A week in the lobby
Monday it’s empty.
Friday it’s gone.
Here’s what a typical one-week drive looks like. You choose the actual days — any weekday drop-off, any weekday pick-up.
- MonBins arrive. We set them up by the elevators before the morning rush.
- TueWord gets out. Your announcement lands and the first phones drop in.
- WedJunk-drawer day. Old laptops from home offices, tablets from the kids’ rooms.
- ThuLast call. A quick reminder email empties the stragglers’ drawers.
- FriWe roll them out. Full bins head to our facility and your lobby is back to normal.
Who it’s for
Built for buildings full of people.
Office towers & commercial buildings
A tenant amenity that costs you nothing.
- Give every tenant company a free, secure way to clear out old devices — an easy win for tenant relations and your next newsletter.
- In Missouri, businesses can’t legally landfill certain electronics (MoDNR). A lobby bin hands tenants a compliant option.
- Ask for a free Certificate of Recycling for your sustainability or ESG file.
- Tell us your dock hours, freight elevator, check-in and vendor paperwork, and we plan around them.
Best spot: the main lobby by the elevator bank or next to security.

A resident perk that empties junk drawers.
- Residents finally get rid of the old phones, tablets and laptops in their drawers — without a drive across town or a Saturday in line.
- Keeps electronics out of community dumpsters and trash rooms.
- Perfect for spring cleaning, move-out season, Earth Day (April 22) or America Recycles Day (November 15).
- Board-friendly: free, no contracts, and we handle the data on every device.
Best spot: the clubhouse, leasing office, mailroom or package room.

- Need a bigger cleanout? Our business pickup handles full loads.
Best spot: the leasing office or mail center at each property.

An employee e-waste drive in a single email.
- Employees bring old personal devices from home; we wipe them and recycle them responsibly. A feel-good perk that takes no staff time.
- Big-box stores cap drop-offs per household and many won’t take business equipment. Our bins take both.
- Great for Earth Day, sustainability weeks, wellness fairs and office moves.
- Retiring company IT too? See business ITAD — Certificates of Destruction included.
Best spot: the break room, cafeteria or main entrance.

Data security
Every phone in that bin is someone’s whole life.
Photos, passwords, banking apps, client files. That’s why people keep old devices in a drawer instead of tossing them — and why we treat every device in your bin like it belongs to your most nervous tenant.
- 01In plain sightBins sit in your lobby, where your front desk and cameras can see them. Lids close and latch for the ride.
- 02Straight to our facilityOur crew takes the bins from your lobby directly to our plant at 125 E 10th Ave, North Kansas City.
- 03Wiped or destroyedHard drives, SSDs and phone storage are wiped to NIST 800-88, or shredded or drilled.

Tip for your announcement: back up, sign out of iCloud or Google, and factory reset if you can. Can’t get it to turn on? Drop it in anyway — we wipe or destroy it regardless. How to wipe a device →
Bins vs. the usual options
The easiest e-waste drive in Kansas City.
Most options make each person haul their own stuff somewhere, on someone else’s schedule. Bins bring the drop-off to where people already are.
| Question | Our lobby bins | Big-box store drop-off | One-day city event | Mail-back e-waste box |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cost to the host | Free | Free for most items; TV fees | Free or small fees | You buy the box |
| Who carries it | We roll it in and out | Each person drives it to a store | Each person drives and waits in line | You pack and ship it |
| When people can drop off | Any time your building is open, for days | Store hours, with per-day item limits | One date, a few hours | Whenever the box has room |
| Business devices welcome | Yes | Often refused | Usually residents only | Depends on the program |
| Data wiped for you | Every drive, NIST 800-88 or shredded | Varies — often up to you | Rarely promised | Rarely stated |
| Certificate for your records | Free on request | No | No | Varies |
| Needs a parking lot | No — works in a high-rise | — | Yes | — |
Based on published policies we checked in October 2026 — for example, Best Buy limits drop-offs to 10 items per household per day and doesn’t accept products from businesses, and Staples limits drop-offs to 7 items per day. Policies change, so check with each program.

Common questions
Questions, answered.
Still wondering? Text us at (816) 838-6298 or call (816) 295-2334.
Is hosting collection bins really free?
Yes. There’s no charge to host collection bins at a business, office building, HOA, apartment community, school, church or nonprofit in the Kansas City metro. We drop the bins off on a weekday, pick them up on a weekday you choose, and recycle everything at no cost to you or the people who use them.
What can go in the bins?
Cell phones, tablets and e-readers, laptops and Chromebooks, desktop computers, plus the small stuff that goes with them: chargers, cables, keyboards, mice, hard drives and USB sticks. Please keep TVs and large monitors, loose or swollen batteries, trash, liquids and hazardous waste out of the bins. The full list of what we accept covers everything else.
How long do the bins stay, and how many will we get?
You choose a weekday drop-off date and a weekday pick-up date when you book; a one-week drive (drop off Monday, pick up Friday) is an easy place to start. Tell us your expected turnout — a rough guess or “not sure” is fine — and we bring the right number of bins. Filling up faster than expected? Call us and we’ll work it out.
What happens to the data on the phones and laptops?
Every device goes straight to our North Kansas City facility. Drives and phone storage are wiped to NIST 800-88, or physically shredded or drilled, and nothing goes to a landfill. The host organization can get Certificates of Recycling and Data Destruction free on request. More on our data destruction process.
Do we need a loading dock or a parking lot?
No. The bins roll on casters through standard doors and elevators. Just tell us about dock hours, freight elevators, check-in or any vendor paperwork your building requires when you book, and we plan around it. (Saturday parking-lot recycling events are different — see the next question.)
Can we hold a Saturday recycling event instead?
Yes. Recycling events run on Saturdays, one event per day, and your location must have a parking lot with enough room for our 26-foot box truck to park for the whole event. Request a recycling event. Bins are for weekdays: we drop them off and pick them back up.
Can people put TVs or big monitors in the bins?
No — TVs and large monitors don’t belong in the bins. Anyone can bring them to our dock at 125 E 10th Ave, North Kansas City (the first 3 TVs are free, then $10 each). We don’t accept CRT tube TVs or plasma TVs.
Which areas do you serve?
The Kansas City metro on both sides of the state line — roughly 25 miles from our facility in North Kansas City, including downtown KC, the Plaza, Crown Center, Overland Park, Olathe, Lenexa, Leawood, Lee’s Summit, Independence, Liberty and the Northland. Farther out? Call (816) 295-2334 and ask.
