Why this matters.
Throwing a hard drive in the trash is a data breach waiting to happen. Even reformatted drives can have data recovered with off-the-shelf tools. Computer Recycling LLC offers two methods of certified destruction: NIST 800-88 software wiping for drives we’ll resell or refurbish, and physical destruction (shredding or drilling) for drives that need to be unrecoverable.
Every business engagement includes a serialized Certificate of Destruction documenting drive make, model, serial number, destruction method, and date of processing. The certificates satisfy HIPAA Security Rule §164.310(d)(2)(i), SOX, PCI-DSS Requirement 9.8, and FERPA recordkeeping requirements.
Need destruction witnessed at your facility? We offer on-site hard drive destruction for organizations that require chain-of-custody never to leave their building. Otherwise, drop drives off Mon–Sat or schedule a free business pickup within ~25 miles of ZIP 64116.
Answers, plain & simple.
How much does hard drive shredding cost?
Drop-off destruction is free. Per-drive Certificates of Destruction (which most regulated businesses need) carry a small per-asset audit fee — call (816) 295-2334 for current pricing.
Do you provide Certificates of Destruction?
Yes. Every business engagement includes serialized Certificates documenting each drive's make, model, serial number, destruction method, and date. Satisfies HIPAA, SOX, PCI-DSS, and FERPA requirements.
What's the difference between wiping and shredding?
Wiping overwrites every sector per NIST 800-88 and lets the drive be reused. Shredding/drilling physically destroys the drive so data is permanently unrecoverable. We do both — pick based on whether the drive will be reused or retired.
Do you offer on-site destruction?
Yes. On-site witnessed destruction is available for organizations that need chain-of-custody never to leave their facility. Pricing depends on volume and travel.
How fast can you destroy our drives?
For drop-offs, same-day. For pickups, typically within a few business days. For urgent compliance deadlines, call us — we can often expedite.
