Protecting your personal data is the most important step before recycling any Apple device. Start by backing up your files to iCloud, an external drive, or Time Machine. Next, sign out of iCloud in System Settings and disable Find My Mac — if Activation Lock remains enabled, the device cannot be refurbished or resold, which reduces its recovery value. Then erase the Mac by restarting in Recovery Mode and using Disk Utility to wipe the internal drive. For Apple Silicon Macs (M1 and later), the built-in Erase All Content and Settings option handles everything in one step. If you are unsure about any of these steps, just bring the MacBook in and let us know — our team can perform a secure, certified data wipe on-site at no charge.
