Who handles IT asset disposal in Kansas City?
Computer Recycling LLC has handled IT asset disposal in Kansas City since 2005. IT asset disposal — also called IT asset disposition, or ITAD — is the documented retirement of business hardware. We run scheduled pickups across the metro, on-site palletizing for larger loads, serialized asset reporting, secure data destruction and value recovery on gear that still has resale value. Every drive can be wiped to NIST 800-88, shredded or drilled, and you can request Certificates of Destruction for your audit file. Clients include hospitals, school districts, law firms, city government and Fortune 500 IT departments. Pickups usually need three or more gaylord boxes, though we make exceptions. Call (816) 295-2334 or text (816) 838-6298 and you reach a person, not a queue.
Free for businesses, on request. Certificates of Destruction and asset reports are free for companies and organizations — just ask at pickup or drop-off.
The basics
ITAD stands for IT Asset Disposition — the process of securely retiring technology equipment when it reaches end of life. If your organization is upgrading computers, refreshing a server room, or decommissioning an entire office, ITAD is how you make sure old hardware is handled responsibly.
A proper ITAD program covers everything from the moment equipment leaves your hands to its final outcome: secure data destruction so sensitive information never leaks, asset tracking so you know exactly what happened to every serial number, value recovery so working hardware generates revenue instead of sitting in a closet, and responsible recycling so nothing ends up in a landfill.
Most Kansas City businesses we work with are not ITAD experts — and they do not need to be. That is our job. Whether you have 20 laptops or 2,000, we handle the entire process and deliver the documentation your auditors, compliance team, or board requires. For a general overview of our IT asset disposal program, visit our ITAD overview page.
Our process
Six steps from your loading dock to a complete compliance package. Every device tracked by serial number throughout.
We pick up equipment from your Kansas City location or you drop it off at our North Kansas City facility. Every item is signed for and logged upon arrival.
Each device is recorded by make, model, and serial number. We build a comprehensive asset manifest that becomes the backbone of your compliance documentation.
All storage media is sanitized following NIST 800-88 guidelines — software erasure for reusable drives, physical shredding or drilling for everything else. Certificates of Destruction issued per device.
Working equipment is functionally tested, cosmetically graded, and prepared for remarketing. This step determines which devices qualify for buyback value.
Devices with market value are remarketed through our resale channels. Equipment without resale value is broken down for materials recovery — metals, plastics, and circuit boards are all recycled responsibly.
You receive a complete documentation package: serialized asset inventory, Certificates of Destruction, chain-of-custody records, and a value recovery summary showing what was remarketed and your payout.
Reporting
Every device that enters our facility is logged by its unique serial number. From intake to final disposition, that serial number is tracked at each stage of the ITAD process — data destruction, testing, grading, and ultimate outcome (resold or recycled).
This level of granularity matters for organizations that need to prove chain of custody to auditors, demonstrate compliance with data privacy regulations, or simply reconcile their internal asset management records. Our reports map directly to your existing asset tags and inventory systems.
For Kansas City businesses managing hundreds or thousands of endpoints, serialized tracking eliminates the guesswork. You know exactly where every laptop, desktop, server, and phone ended up — and you have the documentation to prove it.
Value recovery
Working IT equipment has real market value, and too many Kansas City organizations leave money on the table by simply recycling everything. Our electronics buyback program evaluates every device and pays you for hardware that still has resale demand.
Business-class laptops from Dell, HP, and Lenovo that are under five years old typically command the strongest prices. Apple MacBooks and iPads hold value exceptionally well. Enterprise servers, networking equipment, and current-generation phones also qualify for buyback in most cases.
Here is how pricing works: after data destruction and testing, we grade each device by condition and current market rates. You receive an itemized value recovery report showing the assessed value of each unit. Equipment that does not meet resale thresholds is recycled at no cost — you never pay anything regardless of the outcome. Payments are issued by check after remarketing is complete.
Pricing
Most ITAD vendors bill per asset, per pickup, or per drive destroyed. We don’t. Collection, sorting, NIST 800-88 data destruction, Certificates of Destruction, serialized reporting and recycling are all included at no charge — whether you have two machines or two hundred.
On equipment that still holds resale value, money moves the other way: we pay you back a share of what it recovers. Recent servers, switches, laptops and networking gear are the usual candidates. What a given load is worth depends on age, condition and the market that week, so we’ll look at your list and tell you straight.
Recent work
Between 3 June and 22 August 2026 we processed 500 assets across 13 ITAD projects for Kansas City organisations. Client names stay confidential — that is the point of the service — but the shape of the work is worth seeing.
| Project size | Projects | Typical client |
|---|---|---|
| 1–9 assets | 3 | A small practice or office closing out a few machines |
| 10–49 assets | 6 | A refresh cycle or a single department |
| 50–99 assets | 2 | A full office or a multi-year backlog |
| 100+ assets | 2 | A relocation, a bank branch, or a server room |
Recent ITAD clients include two Kansas City banks, an anaesthesiology practice, a medical billing company, an appraisal firm, several IT services and technology firms, and two retail businesses. Regulated industries — healthcare under HIPAA, finance under Gramm-Leach-Bliley — make up a steady share of the work, which is why the documentation side is built the way it is.
Compliance
All data sanitization follows NIST Special Publication 800-88 guidelines. We perform Clear, Purge, or Destroy methods based on media type and your security requirements. Every drive is verified and documented. Learn more on our data destruction page.
You receive three types of certificates for each ITAD project: Product Destruction certificates, Recycling certificates, and Data Destruction certificates. These satisfy audit requirements for HIPAA, SOX, PCI-DSS, FERPA, and internal security policies.
From the moment we sign for your equipment at pickup to the final disposition of each asset, every handoff is documented. This unbroken chain of custody demonstrates your organization exercised due diligence in the disposal of data-bearing devices.

Learn moreExperience
ITAD is not just about moving boxes. It is about protecting your organization from data breaches, regulatory fines, and environmental liability. That requires mature processes, trained staff, and established downstream partnerships — all things that take years to develop and refine.
Computer Recycling LLC has been serving the Kansas City metro for over two decades. In that time we have processed hundreds of thousands of assets for organizations ranging from 10-person offices to enterprise rollouts spanning thousands of devices. Our processes have been tested, audited, and improved through real-world experience — not theory.
Downstream accountability is where many newer ITAD vendors fall short. We know exactly where every material stream goes after it leaves our facility. Circuit boards, metals, plastics, and hazardous components are all sent to vetted downstream processors who meet our environmental standards. That accountability protects you from the reputational and legal risks of improper disposal.

ITAD stands for IT Asset Disposition. It is the process of securely retiring IT equipment — computers, laptops, servers, phones, networking gear — in a way that protects your data, recovers value from working hardware, and responsibly recycles everything else. A full ITAD program includes asset inventory, data destruction, remarketing, recycling, and compliance documentation.
Every device we receive is logged by make, model, and serial number at intake. Each asset is tracked through data destruction, testing, and final disposition. You receive a full report showing the status and outcome of every serial number, which satisfies internal audit and compliance requirements.
If your equipment has remaining market value — typically business-class laptops, enterprise servers, and networking gear under five years old — you receive a buyback payment after the equipment is tested and graded. Equipment with no resale value is recycled at no cost. You never pay for ITAD services at Computer Recycling LLC.
We follow NIST Special Publication 800-88 guidelines for media sanitization. Depending on the media type and your requirements, we perform software-based secure erasure or physical destruction via shredding and drilling. Certificates of Destruction are provided for every device, covering product destruction, recycling, and data destruction.
Most projects are completed within 5 to 10 business days from pickup. The timeline depends on the volume of equipment and the complexity of the project. We provide status updates throughout the process and deliver your compliance documentation and value recovery report upon completion.
