Do you accept game consoles for recycling?
Yes — we take game consoles free, working or broken, any brand and any age. Bring them to Computer Recycling LLC at 125 E 10th Ave, North Kansas City, MO 64116. No appointment, no minimum quantity, no fee. We are open Monday to Friday 8am–3pm and Saturday 8am–2pm. Pull around to the back dock, ring the bell, and our crew comes out to unload for you — most drop-offs take under five minutes. Nothing is landfilled: working gear is refurbished for reuse and the rest is broken down for material recovery through R2v3 or e-Stewards certified partners. Larger volumes can be picked up instead.

Why Recycling Matters
Game consoles contain lithium batteries (in controllers), lead solder, brominated flame retardants, and copper wiring. Their plastic housings take hundreds of years to decompose in landfills. Recycling recovers metals and plastics while preventing toxic leaching.

Modern game consoles store a surprising amount of personal information — saved payment methods, linked email accounts, friend lists, chat history, and even stored photos or screenshots. Before bringing in your PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo console, sign out of all accounts and perform a full factory reset. On PlayStation, go to Settings > System > Reset Options > Reset Your Console. On Xbox, navigate to Settings > System > Console Info > Reset Console. On Nintendo Switch, use Settings > System > Formatting Options. This protects your personal data and delinks the console from your gaming accounts.
Remove any game discs from the drive and eject or remove any external storage such as USB drives or SD cards (Switch uses microSD). If you are recycling controllers separately, remove the rechargeable batteries from wireless controllers if they are user-accessible. Game consoles contain custom processors, high-grade copper heat sinks, aluminum chassis components, and plastic housings that are all recoverable through responsible recycling. Throwing a console in household trash wastes these materials and risks leaching lead solder and brominated flame retardants into the soil over time.

Yes, it is recommended that you factory reset your console and sign out of your PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, or Nintendo account before recycling. This protects your personal data and payment information. If you cannot do this yourself, Computer Recycling LLC provides data destruction services.
Do you accept broken or non-working game consoles?

Yes. We accept game consoles in any condition — broken, overheating, disc drive failures, HDMI port damage, water damage, or any other issue. Broken consoles are recycled free of charge. The materials inside are still valuable for responsible recycling.
Can I recycle game controllers, cables, and accessories?

Yes. We accept all gaming accessories including controllers, charging docks, headsets, power cables, HDMI cables, VR headsets, and any other peripherals. Bring everything together with your console or drop off accessories separately — all free.
Does game console recycling cost anything?
